An Oculoplastic procedure is a type of surgery that focuses on your eyes and surrounding structures like eyelids, eye sockets, and skin around the eyes. This is to rectify a medical problem or for cosmetic reasons. It is a combination of ophthalmology and plastic surgery. These procedures are done by Ophthalmologists with special training skills in Plastic or Reconstructive Surgery.
At Gagana eye Hospital, our specialised oculoplastic surgeons render dedicated services to improve the functionality, the appearance of the eyes and to restore the lost beauty. Our team takes extra effort and care while working with kids, teenagers as the eye muscles are fragile during early stages of growth.
Oculoplastic Surgery is used to treat conditions like:
Droopy Eyelids affect the upper eyelids known as Ptosis. Baggy eyelids can affect both upper and lower eyelids. These are considered as common conditions caused due to birth defect, weakness of muscles that helps in raising the eyelid, stroke, trauma, age (loosening of the skin around the eye) or other medical disorders. However if it is affecting the eyesight or quality of life one should refer to the Opthomologist.
Drooping Eyelid covers the pupil of the eye causing a complete vision block. Tiredness and persistent pain around the eyes. It causes wrinkles on the forehead and abnormal postures of the head. In children severe drooping eyelids may lead to lazy eye or amblyopia. If untreated, it may lead to long term vision loss.
Entropion occurs when eyelids turn inwards and usually occurs in the lower lids. Constant rubbing can cause scarring of the cornea leading to vision loss. Surgical corrections are generally recommended.
Redness, mucus discharge, discomfort or irritation caused due to eyelid skin and eyelashes that rub against the eyeball. Severity can tear or rupture the Ocular surface.
Ectropion occurs when eyelids turn outwards, no longer covering the eye surface. Results in affecting the quality of your vision. Ectropion can affect both the lower eyelids.
Sagging skin around the eyes, dryness of the eyes, redness, mucus discharge, itching and irritation of the ocular surface.
Watery Eyes are common amongst children and adults. It can be due to a common cold, allergy or mild eye infection. But if the watery eyes persist for a longer time, it can be due to blocked tear ducts. Blocked tear ducts prevents flow of tears from the eye. This condition is caused due to obstruction in the tear drainage system. In such cases seek the medical help of an Ophthalmologist.
Excessive tearing, redness of the eye, painful swelling eyes and blurred vision.
