GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma is an eye disease that can cause loss of peripheral vision or complete vision loss. It's a common eye condition where the optic nerve connecting the eye to the brain gets damaged. The symptoms are often slow and are unnoticed by people or there are no early symptoms. Comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to get glaucoma detected and it can be controlled through medication or surgery. Early detection and early treatment can protect your eyes from losing your precious vision. Make a preventive eye care appointment annually. To be in safe hands, schedule your appointment right away with Gagana eye Hospital.

The two main types of glaucoma are:

Open-angle Glaucoma: The drainage angle of the eye remains open but the drainage canal system gets clogged overtime creating internal eye pressure, eventually causing damage to the optic nerve that carries visual image to the brain.

Closed - angle Glaucoma: occurs when the IRIS gets narrow or bulges forward, blocking the drainage angle. The fluid cannot circulate through the drainage canal system resulting in increased eye pressure within the eyeball.
